About

Whether it’s science, lifestyle, nutrition or travel, you can explore my posts by clicking one of the category’s above the Venetian rooftops or check out my most recent posts on the left. Happy reading!

I study Biomedical Sciences at Manchester Uni and love all things health related; more specifically, I’m really interested in integrative, preventative and alternative medicine (how they practice medicine in different parts of the world), nutrition and mental health. This blog is a compilation of everything that I learn and come across in my life that I think is worth sharing with all you lovely people. My passion in health and well being grew from a personal struggle with illness, and the drive to make myself well as best I can. It’s a really exciting journey, experimenting and creating a lifestyle and diet which makes you feel clean, energetic and happy, and it’s a path I’m on forever. Life is an adventure and we all have a different purpose; I like to think that my purpose is to learn and use my knowledge to help people. So I hope you enjoy reading my posts and that you take a little something away with you each time.

A bit about me..

I was born in Kuwait, lived in Bahrain until I was 8, then moved to the Isle Of Wight in England. Then moved back to Bahrain when I was 13, then moved back to the Isle of Wight when I was 15. I finished school, then at 18 I worked in Tunisia for 4 months as an activity’s rep coordinating kids club sessions and poolside/beach activities. I then moved over to Australia with a working holiday visa, and spent the year partly working around Sydney and WA, and travelled my way up both the East and West coast. Following Aus, I backpacked around Asia for 6 months having the time of my life. Then I started Uni September 2015, and have just finished 2nd year. I spent a couple of months in Europe in 2016 and I loved getting to know my neighbours a little better. I am moving to Ecuador in August, 2017, to work at the Timburi Cocha Research Station in the Amazon Rainforest, completing a research project of my own as part of my degree. Very exciting!

In 2nd year I had a job Supervising the Alumni Call Team which fundraises for Medical Research and scholarships, among other things. I loved my job and it was a fantastic way to get to know some wonderful people and learn all about philanthropy. I’ve always loved sport, and I was captain of the 2nds Water Polo team at uni, a great way to keep fit and be a part of a fab community.

Another passion of mine is music. I play the piano, the oboe, the guitar and I sing. It’s hard to keep it all up at Uni but I have my guitar which I love to play and sing with, keeps me calm in my stressful life.

Any other questions you have about me, feel free to ask at the bottom.

Oh, and my favourite colour is green.

Sophie xx

  1. I have just read your article on alcohol and, like you said towards the end of your article, I am a believer in everything in moderation. I am a huge advocate for integrative health, having been a nurse for 38 years, a massage practitioner for 14 and more recently have taken to a specific interest in nutrition especially in relation to prevention and treatment of disease…. mental health is also an area I am extremely interested in.
Your gorgeous Auntie, Sara, is a dear friend of mine and I believe we almost met when you were staying with her recently in San Pedro. What a pity we missed one another. Anyway I am going to follow you on face book and look forward eagerly to your articles!! Well done. Clare (Webster)

    1. Ahh Clare it’s so lovely to hear from you!!
Words from a true expert thank you!
My dissertation at uni is using nutrition to prevent the 5 deadliest diseases in the western world so there will be a lot of posts about that over the next few months, I find it all fascinating!
This is, of course, the beginning of my career and I’m excited to keep writing about what I love and learn as much as possible!
Thanks for your support it’s really appreciated 🙂

  2. You went and done it. You went and followed Uncle Bardie’s Stories & Such. You are now one of Uncle Bardie’s Band of Merry Followers. Just so you know, Uncle Bardie’s a hoot, and he’s got quite a few whoppers in his bag of stories. Some funny, some not so funny. But all told for your entertainment. Thank you for following his blog.
